I Always thought Permanent Makeup Might Be Out of My League as a Career… BUT Decided To Follow My Dream!
An In-depth Interview with Sarah on her training 1 on 1 with Katy at The Permanent Makeup Training Academy
In this extended video we hear all of Sarah’s initial concerns prior to training in permanent makeup, how much research she did before booking a course, and why she chose to train 1 to 1 with Katy Jobbins.

‘I’ve never been in the beauty industry. I’ve always thought of it as a fantasy job & never thought of it as a career.
So I thought why not pursue it and have a massive change. I looked everywhere online, went on loads of different websites, but you always seemed to be training in a group and still paying that expensive amount. I was really looking for a 1 to 1 feel so looked on many forums and saw that quite a few people had mentioned Katy. I clicked on her link and was addicted as soon as I started reading it. It told me what to look out for when looking for training and it just made everything click. I just read all about her and her past and it inspired me.
It really seemed to have that personal touch, like she really wanted to get really personal with the students and make them a success individually whereas with a group setting you wouldn’t get that personal touch.
I then went on to literally stalk all your previous students to see how they are getting on and everybody I’ve looked at is so successful and doing absolutely amazing. Katy makes the training so simple to understand. I have no previous experience but all these techniques just come together.
Colour theory was one of my biggest concerns, but the way Katy trains made it very easy to take in and understand. She doesn’t let you move on until you completely understand and thats great…
I’m a bit lost for words to be fair. I feel that its all coming together well. Its exciting because the best feeling is that I want to do more and perfect my skills. I feel so comfortable now and the fear has gone and I’m not nervous at all.
I think that working on a human is much easier than working on a dummy head, which I’m very surprised at but am very happy as it came so natural. Katy helped me through every part of it which was great because you need that support. After my first client I was very happy, the client was very happy and I can’t wait to carry on doing brows, which I’m shocked at. I came in yesterday very panicky and I can’t believe how confident I am now.
Working on the eyeliner I was thinking it was going to be a bit scary, working near the eye, but its not as scary as you think its going to be at all. It was very good, very neat, and I got it a lot quicker than I thought I would. I couldn’t believe it as the client was enjoying having her permanent eyeliner so much she fell asleep, which you wouldn’t be able to believe but she was that relaxed, so that was great…
It was great seeing Katy work on real life, full paying clients as well. It’s nice to know that Katy uses exactly the same techniques as she is teaching you and see how Katy interacts with the clients. I’m so excited, I’m not sure I’ll sleep tonight.”
On her final day…
“I can’t believe 4 days have gone so quick and I have taken on so much information. I had my own brows done today by Katy and they look amazing. I’m really happy with them, I’ve never had brows like this. It feels good and it was good to actually be a client and experience it. I just want everything done now.
I can’t wait to go home and start on my case studies…I was terrified when I got here on day 1, terrified, and now I feel very confident. This week we have had such a mixture of clients. A nurse, a mum, a school teacher then today we had a P.A. Seeing a professional nurse come in and have a full face done by Katy was really good to see. I’ve worked on different clients, with different skin types with different ages.
Talking about the training…
It was great. Really good. I loved every minute of it and definitely recommend it to anybody as it will be the best decision that anybody can make, 100%.
She’s the top trainer you’re ever likely to come across, you get that really personal 1 to 1 feel. I feel very confident going out there in a completely new career path. She has made me feel that confident that i can go out there and start tattooing tomorrow.”
So how is she getting on after finishing her course… Here is Sarah’s update just a couple of months later..
“I trained about 7 or 8 weeks ago now and did marine biology before.
Its going really well. When I first started it was a bit nerve-racking, obviously having a complete change and everything, but my confidence over the first few weeks that have gone by has completely grown and I love doing it. I’ve done quite a few treatments now and my confidence has grown as I’ve experienced different skin types and everything, it’s been brilliant.
I’ve just done a couple of top ups. So that was great to see how the colour had changed, and understand how to deal with customers wanting any tweaks etc.
I’ve had one client who I’ve just done her lips 3 weeks after having her brows done. Her brows look absolutely amazing just after one treatment so I can’t wait to do her top up as well. Everyone’s treatments have been looking absolutely amazing so far and so I’m very happy and the clients are happy and all coming back for more treatments as well and spreading the word.
As people spread the word you get more and more people coming in and it’s given me a boost of confidence.
I did find it very scary at first, but you just have to chuck yourself in there, if you want something enough then you will do it, and its gone so successful and I’m building up a clientele for myself.
I have a whole new career and I can’t wait for it!”
