Selamat Datang Linda. She’s Learning a Skill She Can Take Anywhere in the World.
A place close to my heart. I recognised her accent immediately.
Once we’d finally finished talking about how KL has changed so much, how Malacca had the best food, about missing Nasi Lemak, durian and eating roti chani every day for breakfast we then got back to how she came to be sat here in my office learning permanent makeup and what she’s going to do with it.
Linda is a scalp tattooist and HD brow specialist, after suffering with hair loss herself, she came across this amazing treatment where she’d also be able to help others suffering after cancer, alopecia, burns, full or partial hair loss.
Permanent makeup is the next thing to add to her list of skills and like many of my other students have done, it’s something she can take anywhere in the world whether she wants to practice in the UK or abroad.
Linda is Quite the Perfectionist is an Understatement, and Was Incredibly Hard on Herself When Her First Ever Hair Stroke is Not Exactly Perfect.
It just takes time and practice. I often have perfectionists who tattoo 3 hair strokes and stress that they are not exactly the same as mine.
“It’s Ok for you because you have experience”…
And to that I’d say “I only have experience because I practiced.” It doesn’t happen overnight so you should enjoy the journey and the process of honing your skill, building your business & becoming what you want to be.
How Good You Get to Be at One Thing, Depends on Your Focus on It.
Every expert had to start somewhere and you never really feel like you’re finished. I’ve found that the more you know about a subject, the more you know that you don’t know.
I still utterly love the process of getting better, working on myself and developing my own skills in permanent makeup. Every year I see a clear improvement on my own technique, learning new things and also learning from my students some of the things they’ve picked up whilst they’ve been running their own permanent makeup business.
It’s because as the circumference of what you do know about a subject widens, the perimeter of what you don’t know also grows.
The Thing That Must Happen in Order to Become an Expert in Any Field is Laser Focus
I love to see all the directions my students take their businesses over the years. How much of a specialist they become, how much they learn and what they earn is entirely up to them…I provide the opportunity, not the outcome.
I find that super inspiring, as no two people are ever the same and each one comes with an entirely different background and skill set. They become the most valuable project they’ll ever work on.
Most importantly each student comes with a unique vision for their future, what inspires them and what they are going to put into it, which eventually, will be a perfect reflection of what they’ll get out of it at the other end.
