How Will You Feel When You Finish Your Permanent Makeup Training Course and Start Your New Business?
Will you be confident, raring to go and ready to start your first clients/case studies, or screaming at the top of your voice with frustration because your trainer never gets back to you!
Do you know with 100% certainty, that your trainer will be with you every step of the way regardless of how many questions you have and how often you need to speak to them, even if it’s at 8pm on a Sunday evening or a bank holiday?
I ask this because we know from experience that THE NUMBER 1 PROBLEM new permanent makeup technicians face is lack of support from their trainer/training company after they have paid them the training fee and left the course.
How Do We Know This?
Because, unfortunately over 60% of phone calls we get each day, week in week out, are from people who have recently trained with other companies in Permanent Makeup and for some reason or other, are not confident enough to work on clients. Many have not even finished their courses or case studies that they have already paid for and written off ever going back to their original training company.
With hundreds of calls from new permanent makeup technicians each and every year we have found the common issues are; that they:
- were in a group setting, did not get enough actual hands on experience & were worried about making mistakes
- were constantly fighting for the trainers attention and they got lost in a crowd
- had no real connection to their trainer before, during or after their training
- did not feel that they could contact their training company with issues and questions they needed answering as when they did, the solution was always ‘you need to pay for more equipment or training’
- felt like they were simply a number, not a person & the course was structured like a well oiled production line
- were over promised and their training company under delivered
- were tied into only buying from their training company for ongoing supplies at very high prices and felt very restricted
- etc. etc.
The list goes on and on, but what is clear is that they were seeking for new guidance, a new mentor and usually more training to become the confident technician they know they could be with the right training and on-going support.
So What Went Wrong?
Some confess that they should have done more research before they booked their course, some admit to booking the cheapest course they could find… others were simply unlucky. Unlucky that when they turned up to their first days training, the training company themselves had not even decided or knew who was going to be training them, or how many people they would be sharing their trainer with. It seemed like ‘pot luck’ a lot of the time.
We recently retrained a lovely girl who said her original training company gave her (and 3 others she had originally trained with) an extra training day due to their lack of confidence. Upon turning up to her ‘additional training day’ she was delighted to find that the other 3 girls booked onto the day, had decided to give up and not attend, meaning that amazingly she was about to receive her first taste of 1 to 1 training 🙂
Unfortunately, this lucky turn was not exactly what she had hoped for, as the trainer simply left her with the client booked into be a model and proceeded to sit at the back of the room and play on her phone for the next 90 minutes, occasionally looking up to ask if she had finished the brows yet!
